Living my life in 4-D
3-D is all the rage in movies, and has been for the last few years. Honestly, I find it kind of annoying, but it truly is amazing to see how far technology has come from the old red and blue 3-D glasses of old...
But do you ever think about life in the context of dimensions, and how you live/view your world? God does. In the passage here, He talks about 4-dimensional love - God's love having height, width, length, and depth. The scripture also talks about how Paul (the author) hopes that we will someday have the ability to understand the magnitude of God's love and "be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God."
It has taken me a little time to come up with what I believe to be a good bit of imagery for this concept. At first I thought, oh, a cup that overflows because it's too full, but quickly decided that was overplayed and then I was stuck again.
Then it hit me... a water balloon. That's right, picture a bright red balloon that, when empty, you can stretch and pull in any direction, but no matter what you do to it, it is still pretty much going to be small and flat. But imagine that you start filling that balloon with water, and as it fills, it grows and grows until you think it can't hold any more. Because you want to test the limits of this balloon and how much water it can hold, you don't stop. You are amazed as water continues to pour into the balloon, when suddenly there is water all over the place and the balloon has burst from the abundance of water that was in it.
Think about the image of the balloon - once the water was poured into it, it began to take on a new shape and a seemingly new dimension because of its fullness. This is what comes to my mind when I think about the multi-dimensional love of God and its fullness, as it is poured into my life.
My hope and prayer is that God's love will pour into me and I will live in such a way that I am constantly bursting with the love of God.
What would it look like for you to be "filled to the measure of all the fullness" of God's love?
